SUSTAINABILITY

Economic Growth & Decent Work

Providing the local communities an avenue of economic growth and opportunities of higher earnings is our primary focus.

We not only stress on sourcing the fruit and ancillary products from local and domiciled companies, but also ensure that we pay a fair value for the goods and services.

Our commitment is also to be instrumental in increasing the net income of the farmers with support in yield and saleable produce improvement.

Balanced & Efficient Work Force

Having a balanced workforce doesn’t only mean having equal opportunities but also means equal treatment to all. We practice this in letter and spirit and provide equal opportunities to all irrespective their background or gender. We are encouraging engagement of women in the business especially at the packhouse and processes around the sales and post-harvest activities. We also encourage progressive young and experienced talent at the same time and have a mix of talent in terms of age, gender, experience and backgrounds.

Digitization

Improvement of efficiency and productivity is also our main target and we do this through involvement of technology at all levels especially in the communication.

We believe in empowering our employees and stakeholders with information and transparency through efficient use of technological platforms.

We aim to use this to being our customers closer to our operations and use the resulting effect to provide safer and better quality and traceable produce to our consumers.

Nature: Soil Quality

Soil quality is an issue in Ecuador due to farms being very old with an average age of 20 years and also lack of knowledge and costs of renewing the soil.

In addition, soil erosion is also very common in the banana farms and as such there is a need to focus on the soil and its quality.

FrutaGrande is encouraging and helping the farmers contribute to soil improvement by various ingenious methods like using the stem of banana bunches mixed with organic material to put back in the soil which helps improve the soil quality.

Proper usage of channeling and water is also given focus at our farms. Besides this using organic carbon to enrich the soil and improve its nutrient absorbing capacity is also actively taken up by our associate farmers.

Community: Education

Education is a fundamental right of every human being and we believe it is our responsibility to commit to advancing this cause.

We are aiming to support the farming communities with skill-based education for their children through our association with various agricultural universities in the region.                                                                              Providing a path for the young students to join the farming businesses and meet the challenges that lie ahead in the food and agriculture industries, we are looking at sponsoring the education of deserving students coming from farming families to attend higher agricultural courses. This would not only raise their level of education but also bring back best practices and technological know-how to their home base and help support the Ecuadorian agriculture development.
